Many people have taken in a baby raccoon. When they are young they are cute and curious, but then they reach sexual maturity and they become unpredictable, aggressive, and even dangerous. It isn’t a different animal, the behavior was in its nature all along.
Many people take in pet sins. At first they are fun and fanciful; they feel they have gotten away with them. However when sin ripens it yields separation, suffering, and shame and when it is finished it “bringeth forth death.” James 1:15. The trick of sin was that it was deadly all along.
Oh that we might see sin for what it is, and hate it as God does, that it hurt us no more. May the deathly working of sin in us “become exceeding sinful” to us. Romans 7:13 -PB
