“Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.” Mat 10:34
Jesus’ first coming was not to “send” peace “on earth,” but in the hearts of His followers. Outward peace on earth (the end of war, poverty, famine, offenses) will not be seen until He comes again as King. Now, His spiritual kingdom is at war against all that is unholy.
The Christian life is a war: internally (Rom 7:23) between our old man and the reborn, and externally against “principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places” (Eph 6:23).
