One of my favorite books and films is Pollyanna, the story of an orphaned girl who had experienced much hardship but had been taught to play the “Glad Game” by her preacher father before he passed. Whenever a difficulty came she would look for a good thing and make a choice to be glad in it.
“Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.” Phil 4:4
There are plenty reasons to be sad, angry, afraid, or in other negative mind sets, but here we are commanded to rejoice. “This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Ps 118:24 We can rejoice by choice!
Philippians 4:8 tells us what things we must choose to think upon in order that we might have peace and rejoice. Check them out. -PB
