1 Samuel 13:19-22 Unprepared. This surprising passage actually provides the military backdrop for events like David and Goliath. Israel didn’t have real weapons to fight with. They just had farm implements, rocks, and sticks because the Philistines had made it illegal for Israel to have their own blacksmiths. Now when the time came to defend themselves they were unprepared. Let’s not keep going to the world for our spiritual equipment. God’s armory has all the supplies we need (Eph 6:11). Let’s not trust the world to arm us for battle against it. A few examples: Google, Media, News, tv/radio evangelist, books about the Bible – none of these are a substitute for the Bible. There is a place for most all of this stuff, but know the real weapon first. -PB
